Iโve been thinking of you and praying for you since your post yesterday. Itโs wonderful to hear that your neighbor was a blessing to you (and well done you for allowing the tumblers to click to allow her to be a part of your journey). I am so grateful to my yoga practice and my personal faith life to support me when life turns on a dime (and sometimes smacks us in the kisser). You prioritizing your kiddo is such an act of selfless service, what a beautiful testimony to the sufferings and joys of motherhood. We often do have to pause ourselves to channel our limited energy to our offspring, and itโs a hard choice. You sharing your hard choices with your community helps us to feel emboldened for our own families when the time calls for it. Thank you Andrea, for your vulnerability and courageous parenting. May the path forward be clearly revealed and may the helpers you need continue to materialize along the way. ๐๐ป๐
So beautifully written and true Brandi. I love what you have to say because itโs helpful and heartfelt to anyone dealing with a similar situation. Thank you from Lori
Iโm glad today is better! Such a good example of the transitory nature of our feelings about a situation. Im proud of you for reaching out for support. We women (me included) need more examples of others who show bravery and vulnerability when things are hard. We gen X ladies have been pretty conditioned to believe that we can do it ourselves. ๐
So glad that you are having a better day! I think the biggest lesson I am learning is that the bad days arenโt permanent. They are just part of the wave of life
Itโs always such a relief when those moments of connection remind us that we are not alone in our struggles or our joys. Thank you for sharing yourself with us, itโs a beautiful community youโve created -- grateful for youโค๏ธ
Hooray so glad your day was better you deserve to be happy and feel comfortable with the new school your daughter is learning in. Thank you for sharing โค๏ธ
Weโve just gone through a similar thing, and we decided to home-educate our youngest (who just turned 12), and itโs the best decision weโve ever made. Hopefully, weโll be able to get his brother out of the mainstream educational system soon, too.
Here in the UK, they start high school at 11; itโs brutal... and itโs massively different from primary... So punitive, so militant... uniform, without empathy nor understanding for child development (not the teachersโ fault, but generally the system that pushes the teachers over the edge who have no control or say over anything, really..).
So, when you have a neurodivergent child who finds it hard to conform (I mean, I wouldnโt want anyone to conform; the whole system makes my blood boil thinking about it), itโs easy to fall through the cracks...
Itโs been a tough summer for our little family, but seeing our boy happy again, we know we made the right decision. Oh! And we earned a puppy in the process ๐ (therapy dog eventually, but sheโs obviously *my* baby now โบ๏ธ)
Iโve been rereading a lot about education, and I loved Naomi Fisherโs latest book, โA Different Way to Learn.โ - I remembered all about Self-Directed learning and learned that we have to take it super slow and easy to heal our LOโs trauma (as well as ours)...

Love this. It just reminded me of the old Kinks song Better Things. Also sang by Dar Williams. I remember driving home multiple times, frustrated and overwhelmed only to slide this into my CD player and sing out loud. It always lifted my spirits.

As Iโm in the midst of a vulnerable time this was a much needed reminder. Thank you.
